Thursday 10 September 19:30-20:30: Building resilient communities in Palestine

On Thursday 10th of September 19:30-20:30 PAX will be organizing a webinar on Building Resilient Communities in Palestine. PAX has been active in Palestine and Israel since the late 90´s. Among other things, they support their Palestinian networks and initiatives that reduce the fragmentation of the Palestinian community by building on inclusive communities. What is the situation in Palestine like today and how does PAX support these activists in the important work they are doing? Find out during this webinar! The webinar will be given by Thomas van Gool, PAX Program Worker Middle-East, and Lucy Nusseibeh, activist from one of PAX’s Palestinian partners, MEND.

Monday 14 September 19:30-20:30: Bosnia-Herzegovina, 25 years after the war

 

On Monday 14 September at 19:30-20:30 PAX will be organizing a webinar about Bosnia-Herzegovina. It has been 25 years since the end of the war in Bosnia, but after all this time this chapter hasn´t yet been closed. How is the country doing now and what effects of the war are still being felt? Why do we, in the Netherlands, play a role in this? Find out during this webinar! The webinar will be given by Dion van den Berg, Team leader Europe at PAX, the board of Mladi BiH, a youth association, and Nasiha Nuhanović, a law student at the University of Sarajevo.

Thursday 17 September 19:30-20:30: South Sudan and the lawsuit against the multinational Lundin

 

On Thursday the 17th of September from 19:30-20:30 PAX will be organizing a webinar on South Sudan and the lawsuit against the multinational Lundin. The Swedish Public Prosecutor intends to bring the Swedish oil company Lundin to trial for complicity in war crimes and crimes against humanity. This would be the first time that a multi-billion-dollar company would be indicted for such crimes. PAX helped set up this trial. Find out during this webinar how they did this and what the recent developments in this trial are. The webinar will be given by PAX’er Egbert Wesselink, Program Lead for Natural Resources, Human Rights and Conflict.

 

Monday 21 September 19:30-20:30: Activism in Iraq

 

On Monday September 21st at 19:30-20:30 PAX is organizing a Webinar about activism in Iraq. Last year fierce protests broke out there. The demonstrators demanded improved basic services and employment of the government and an end to corruption. Iraqi women also made themselves heard in these demonstrations. 

 

Find out during this webinar how things stand now, ten months later, in Iraq and what role women have had in the protests. The Webinar will be given by PAX’er Rajin Alqallih-van der Zijde, Program Leader Iraq. She will do this together with Iraqi activist Inas Jabbar, who experienced it all with her own eyes.

On Thursday 24th of September 12:30-13:30 PAX will be organizing a webinar on ‘The influence of conflict on the climate’. If conflict and war aren’t bad enough – did you know that both have a major impact on the climate? Not only is the defense industry one of the world’s largest emitters of CO2, but conflicts themselves cause pollution in various ways. These include explosions, toxic remnants of war and radioactive radiation from testing nuclear weapons. How does PAX work with civilians to combat these forms of pollution? Find out during this webinar! The webinar will be given by PAX’er Wim Zwijnenburg, Project leader Humanitarian Disarmament, and Peter Schwartzstein, Journalist at the Center for Climate and Security.

On Monday 28th of September 19:30-20:30 PAX will be organizing a webinar on the use of Killer robots in conflicts. Killer robots are autonomous weapons that can use deadly force without the actual control of a person. PAX would like to see the development, production and deployment of killer robots banned as a preventive measure. How does the rest of the world see this? Find out during this webinar!
