The days are getting shorter, the streets of Utrecht are decorated with cute lights, and Mariah Carey is crawling out of her cave. Time to get ready for the festive season! CS Ubuntu is here to celebrate with you. We are organising
a secret Santa gift exchange

The budget is €7.50, gifts have to fit through a letterbox and to participate have to live in Utrecht, so gifts can be delivered by bike. You can sign up until the 25th of November, after which we will send you an email with information
about the person you are buying a gift for. Next, you decide on a present, maybe add a nice card, and deliver your present before the 13th of December

If you’re leaving before the 13th for the holiday break, we will of course let your secret Santa know!

Hello everybody! Interested in international politics, conflict studies or the Middle East? Then study association CS Ubuntu invites you to an online lecture and Q&A with dr. Lauren Gould on the 30th of November.

As lecturer at the Center for Conflict Studies (Utrecht University) she is specialised in remote warfare and the role of Western states in local conflicts around the world. As warfare changed in recent decades, Western governments
are taking another approach for military interventions abroad. Less troops are being deployed on the ground, and artillery and providing military training to local armies came to play a bigger role. In 2015, a Dutch F-16 attack on
an ISIS arms and bombs storage in Hawija (Iraq), operating in a Western military alliance. This has caused around 170 victims, leaving 70 civilians dead and around 100 wounded. Only in late 2019 this airstrike became topic of public
debate, as questions raised about mis-informing parliament, responsibility and compensation.

Lauren Gould will teach you more about these topics in a lecture on Teams, followed by a Q&A. She has conducted fieldwork in Uganda and South-Sudan, works at Utrecht University and leads the Intimacies of Remote Warfare programme.

For more context, you can find more information about her in the following link, which also includes a podcast: https://intimacies-of-remote-warfare.nl/author/lauren-gould/

You can also watch the following fragment from the talkshow Zondag met Lubach about the situation in Dutch politics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56S-k6Qt34A

We hope to see you and hear your questions on 30th November!

Kisses,

Lecture committee CS Ubuntu
